So thankful for a new day....
I must tell you that the first "hard" part of our trip was, well, rather difficult. Yesterday as we were packing the room up, both children started itching like crazy. Naomi has a rash on her torso and Nate just started scratching a lot. We had some Benadryl with us which seemed to help, or just knock em out...but either way, they felt better. We were able to stop by the jade factory and purchase a jade bracelet for Naomi, one to give her when she gets older. It is SO beautiful! Our flight to Guangzhou was, well, interesting. Within 10 minutes both kids had taken all the paper in the back of the seats and it was everywhere. And Naomi screamed for about half the flight...off and on. A bit concerned about the long leg home next week...but we are taking this one day and a time.
We all slept very well lastnight. In fact we got up at 6am, the latest we have slept all week. Naomi has been in a great mood, loved breakfast (consisting of crackers, boiled egg, rice krispies, and a muffin) and Nate did as well (waffles, eggs ,and juice). There are american families everywhere at this hotel. All with cute little chinese babies. We LOVE it.....talking and connecting with them has lifted our spirits. We are all the more thankful for this journey. We are off to the doctor's office this morning for Naomi's routine check up before receiving her VISA on Monday morning at the US Consulate office. Then we get to walk around this beautiful island!!!!!
We'll write more later today. Keep the prayers and notes coming!! We need them very much.

Lee-Anne & Joel, Do you realize what an absolutely amazing journey are you are on!? I LOVE to read about it and I'm so thankful that you have this blog to keep your long lost friends up to date on your journey to Naomi. She's simply beautiful and seems so sweet. Is she already a year old? And... you mentioned her appt with the cardiologist upon your return home... will you remind us of her condition!? I'm already praying for your flight home and many many many travel mercies along the way! May the Lord sustain you!!! Love y'all!! And still rejoicing with you!!

Love you guys & miss you lots! Can't wait to see all those fun things you've picked up along your journey & to hear all the stories! Did the Cards win tonight??? :) Love ya-Karen

Sounds like you are feeling refreshed in your new surroundings. Thank you Lord for providing some much needed American support in the hotel! We will be praying for a peaceful flight home, so don't you fret over that! We look forward to seeing everyone at the airport, even if you all come out missing patches of hair, eyes drooping on the floor, crawling on your hands and knees. It's all good! We love you regardless! Much love, the Daniels

Fenwicks, Fenwicks, Fenwicks . . . where has the time gone -- I just this moment realized that I have not personally sent a word (or several hundred) your way in a few days, despite having logged on REPEATEDLY to plug in to your photos and be blessed by your sharing of info/emotions/ experiences/etc. MY APOLOGIES. We love you people and certainly hope you know our lack of commentary in NO WAY indicates a lack of caring/ interest. On the contrare, we think of, speak about, and pray for you ALL THE DAYS LONG. Our prayer today will be for continued protection, strength and endurance in moments of parental turbulance, constant reminders of the support system that ANXIOUSLY AWAITS YOUR RETURN, unwaivering awareness of God's hand upon you, and A DEFINITE END TO THE ITCHING (it sounds like that might be resolved, but -- if not -- Greg suggested you tap into the RX of Permethrin). Anyhow, your time in China had been beautifully captured in photos -- a gift to us all. I can't get over how photogenic your wee ones are. Remarkable. As for the rapidly approaching return flight, I echo the comments of others:
TRY NOT TO THINK ABOUT IT, much less worry about it. Though it may not be one you will want to repeat anytime soon, it, too, will pass and what could possibly be more sustaining on such a trying journey than the promise of seeing US at the other end! Halleluiah?!
Can't wait.

I've been missing out since yesterday! Went to "the ville" overnite & saw Mamma Mia - couldn't wait to get back on the computer and catch up! Naomi very much knows what to do for a camera already doesn't she? As I said before - thank goodness because her 3 aunts are going to go crazy! The hotel looks so nice & I'm so glad the temp is normal - you will surely sleep better. Loved the passport! Can't wait to see all the family & sightseeing pictures when you get back. Maybe the excitement of coming back to KY will make the flight go quicker! Ann Wise told me to tell you she checks in daily but doesn't have the "computer savy" to send a message :)

Hey, I had withdrawal after being gone to Knoxville w/o my computer for two days! I agree that your kids are so photogenic that they should be on some sort of catalog cover, or maybe gerber bottles!
That said, have a great day!

Joel and Lee-Anne,
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. James 1:2-3. Praying for quick recovery for Joel and Naomi, and continued wellness for Lee-Anne and Nate! We miss you guys and are counting down the days. Love, Heather
